This website was launched as part of a lexicography workshop held by Foras na Gaeilge at the Oireachtas na Gaeilge festival in Killarney, 31 October 2013. The official launch was performed by Dr Éamonn Ó hÓgáin, eminent lexicographer and former member of the editorial team on Foclóir Gaeilge-Béarla [Irish-English Dictionary]. The website developer Michal Boleslav Měchura then demonstrated the website’s features.
This website is intended to serve as a platform for ancillary products resulting from work on the New English-Irish Dictionary. The data available here includes an electronic version of Foclóir Gaeilge-Béarla [Irish-English Dictionary] (1977, editor Niall Ó Dónaill), an electronic version of English-Irish Dictionary (1959, editor Tomás de Bhaldraithe), a database of grammatical data and a database of pronunciation sound files.
We plan to continue improving these databases in the future and we hope they’ll be of benefit the general public.
