Cuir ~ ar do chuid cainte, talk sense. 3. Lit: Foundation, settlement. Ba leo féin a m~, their settlement was their own. 4. Substance, essence. ~ an chreidimh, the essence of faith. ~ a chuid cainte, the substance of his speech. Sin ~ a bhfuil le rá agam, that is the gist of what I have to say, about all I have to say. 5. Substance, wealth. Fear a bhfuil ~ aige, a man of substance. Is beag ~ a bhí riamh aige, he never had much means. Tá ~ maith air, he is well-established, well-to-do.
